Regent Park SDP Network decides to join City-Wide Coalition at The Planning Committee Meeting

The Regent Park Social Development Plan (SDP) Network’s Planning Committee met on March 26, 2026, to discuss joining a new city-wide coalition aimed at securing funding for community and social development, as well as reviewing the network’s Terms of Reference.

A key focus of the meeting was a recent engagement with a coalition of advocacy groups working to secure sustained funding for community benefits and social development initiatives. A participant who attended the coalition meeting shared that the group is advocating for a $40 million investment in community-based organizations. The proposal would allocate $250,000 to each of 40 organizations, positioning the request against the City’s recent $90 million budget allocation to the Toronto Police Service.
Following the discussion, the Planning Committee reached a consensus for the Regent Park SDP Network to formally join the coalition. To ensure equitable representation, the network will nominate three representatives—one market resident, one Toronto Community Housing resident, and one agency member—who will participate in coalition meetings and report back to the broader network.

The committee also reviewed the SDP Network’s Terms of Reference, a governance document outlining its structure and decision-making processes. The latest draft, prepared by the Strategic and Agenda Committees, was presented for feedback and will be circulated to all SDP members, with the aim of final approval at an upcoming meeting.

The meeting concluded with a scheduling adjustment. Due to a conflict with the Community Benefits Oversight Working Group meeting—particularly concerning ongoing discussions around the Community Benefits Agreement between Toronto Community Housing and Tridel—the Planning Committee agreed to reschedule its April 9 meeting to 1:00 p.m. to ensure full participation.
